July 1998: the earlier disaster
Capcom’s chronology places Resident Evil 0 on July 23 and the first Resident Evil’s mansion incident on July 24. These entries form the earlier disaster surrounding the S.T.A.R.S. investigation and Umbrella, before the city-wide outbreak.

September 1998: overlapping city stories
The same chronology starts RE3 on September 28 and RE2 on September 29. Capcom explains that RE3 begins before RE2 and finishes during Raccoon City’s final days. They are overlapping perspectives, not two neatly consecutive crises.

Claire’s search gives the sequence a personal thread
Capcom’s Claire archive describes a university student searching for her brother when she reaches the outbreak. It also connects Leon with later informing Chris about her imprisonment on Rockfort Island. This is older story context; a reference to Leon in that chain does not establish a playable or on-screen role in the remake.
The remake premise: from France to Rockfort Island
The remake’s Steam synopsis takes Claire to France in search of Chris, then has Umbrella forces capture her and transport her to Rockfort Island. Another biological disaster turns escape into the immediate objective. The current synopsis supplies that sequence without revealing the full campaign.

Why 2000 and 2027 are not story dates
The 2000 label identifies the original game’s release; 2027 identifies Capcom’s announced window for the remake. Neither belongs in the middle of Claire’s 1998 journey. Keeping those labels distinct removes much of the apparent confusion around where Veronica fits.
It also prevents a common comparison error. A later-produced remake can benefit from newer storytelling tools while depicting an earlier point in the characters’ lives. Production order is a conversation about how the games are made. Story order is a conversation about what the characters have experienced.

Where does RE4 sit relative to this?
Capcom’s timeline places RE4 in autumn 2004, well after Code: Veronica’s December 1998 setting. Veronica therefore belongs between the Raccoon City period and Leon’s later RE4 mission in this historical chronology, not after RE4 simply because its remake follows it.

How should returning fans handle remake continuity?
PlayStation Blog reports that Hirabayashi wants parts of the original story retuned to connect with the broader lore developed since 2000. That explains why the old chronology is a useful map without becoming a scene-by-scene contract for the remake.
A practical way to use the timeline
Begin with the event that motivates the person you care about. For Claire, the city outbreak and her continuing search are the direct route. For Chris, the earlier mansion background adds another side. Use the character pages when a name is unfamiliar rather than reading every ending in chronological order.
Chronology does not require completionism. Understanding that two stories overlap is enough to orient yourself; you do not need to reconstruct every hour of the outbreak before enjoying the next one. Preserve the surprise of the later locations and encounters unless comparison with the original is your main goal.
The full Capcom chronology contains later-series spoilers and separates some film continuities from the games. This article stays with the game-story connections relevant to Veronica. It is a spoiler-light orientation, not a complete story recap or a claim that every historical detail is already reconfirmed.
